Industry Co-Op Program

To broaden the practical training for Master of Science and Engineering (MSE) students in the Whiting School of Engineering, INBT collaborate with major industry partners to offer a Co-Op opportunity to incoming MSE students in the Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering programs. This is a credited and paid Co-Op program.

Accepted students will be assigned a faculty advisor at JHU and a research mentor at the sponsoring company. The company will develop a list of goals and development objectives for the student. During the Co-Op period, students meet with their INBT academic advisor every 6 weeks for progress updates. The Co-Op duration is 6 months.

Current sponsoring companies include:

At the end of the Co-Op internship, the student will present an essay based on their research experience to be approved by their department and the industry mentor. For students in the Materials Science and Engineering program, a journal publication can be submitted in lieu of an essay. Please contact the department for more details.

  • Practical training experience to fulfill part of their MSE requirements in lieu of completing a research essay on campus.
  • Opportunity to obtain industry experience with a leading company and gain a broad technical background in disciplines such as operations, pilot plants, safety and environmental management, or regulatory affairs.
  • Financial compensation.
