Zhiyong Xia


Dr. Zhiyong Xia is the Chief Scientist of the Multifunctional Materials and Nanostructures Group at the Johns Hopkins University/Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL).  His research covers a board range of disciplines including nanomaterials, functional hydrogels, phase changing materials, and super absorbing materials.  Prior to joining JHU/APL, Dr. Xia worked at British Petroleum (BP) as a senior polymer scientist.  Dr. Xia has won a number of awards including 2010 BP Global helios award for innovation and the 2016 JHU/APL Invention of the Year Award.  Dr. Xia has more than 80 technical publications, 10 US patents and 35 US patent filings.  Dr. Xia received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
