To be eligible for the certificate program applicants must be accepted as a PhD student in a degree-granting science or engineering department at Johns Hopkins University.

Students applying to the certificate program should be a PhD student in one of the listed departments below. However, applicants will be considered from all relevant science and engineering departments.

When to Apply 

Students can apply to the certificate program:

(1) while accepting an offer into a Johns Hopkins PhD-granting department or

(2) during their first and/or second year in their PhD program

How to Apply

The following application materials are needed:

  • Original PhD admission application materials. ¬†
    • Official transcript
    • Official GRE or MCAT scores
    • Two letters of recommendations from faculty or someone who has worked with you in a supervisory role.
    • Statement of purpose
  • Submit completed Certificate Application Form

Applications are forwarded to the Institute for NanoBioTechnology to be reviewed. Potential applicants are interviewed once they are accepted into a PhD program and have applied for the certificate program. Admission is based on academic performance, research experience, and research interests.

Prospective students should have their academic department forward application materials to Camille Mathis at cmathis@jhu.edu, Director of Academic Programs. The deadline to apply for the Spring 2018 cohort is December 8, 2017.
